Two Days, Two Gigs

First up: Papa Wheely Artist Collective's Dreadful Gestalt show at the Art Gallery of Calgary, 10 April, 8pm, featuring art, performance, music, and twenty-five minutes of CIA for $20. Tickets are advance only.

Just confirmed: The CIA will be playing at the Maritimer 11 April. Show starts at 9:30 pm, with special sit-in guest star ryan fitzpatrick (of The Ogden Owls) and more TBA.

We'll be debuting some of Elise's songs that night, too.

We've recieved the good word for April 2009: Drink beer at the Wild Rose Brewery Taproom, and for every pint of Wild Rose Brown, you'll be giving $0.25 to injured, sick, and otherwise unfortunate local wildlife.

The CIA has played for the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society's benefit before, and you can find James and Jocelyn bottle-feeding baby mammals, giving worms to baby birds, and helping with deer, ducks, hawks, and other critters. The society does awesome work, and they're totally volunteer-based, so the least you can do is knock back a pint or a hundred in April. We'll be there! Wild Rose Taproom Location and Information

Hi Everyone,

Some great news!...... We have been selected by Wild Rose Brewery, to be their Charity of choice for April 2009.

Each month the Brewery raise funds via sales in their Taproom and contribute them to local and deserving charities.

Here is some additional information on the Wild Rose Brewery Charity Pint Program, sent to CWRS by the organizer:

"Helping others, one sip at a time."

At Wild Rose, we believe in giving back to the community. As such, we have created the Wild Rose Charity Pint Program where each month we select a different charitable organization to support.

Throughout the month of April, Wild Rose Brewery would like to donate $0.25 to the Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society for every pint of Wild Rose Brown purchased in the Wild Rose Brewery & Taproom.

Launches & Salmon Paint

Our agents will be in the field for the NoD Magazine launch. We're playing for the fine folks at the magazine, and Agent Ian Kinney will also being flying solo as the headliner. Then the CIA make sure everyone goes home dancing . . . much later, of course.

HQ is slowly becoming the ultimate base-of-operations for the CIA. We are awaiting a second piano for Agent Prang, as well as some mainly æsthetic pursuits. However, there is not a single effin' wall with salmon-coloured paint on it anymore, and for that I am mighty glad.
One of the most singular successes of our moving mission: every device or good necessary ot the production of tea was accounted for throughout the operation. And lord knows, had we gone without tea, it might have cost us not only the operation, but our lives as well.

First and foremost, new pictures are up in the gallery! Go forth and see the Owl Howl . . . these are some of my favourite shots of the band ever.

Secondly, the aforementioned "sitting in with the Pickled Hicks playin' some Hank" show was awesome; and not just the songs I played. The Hicks had Charlie on pedal steel, Brendan on bass, and Pat on drums (I'm not sure of their last names, but they're all amazing; you can see a picture of Pat playing drums with Erin Ross in our Owl Howl Gallery).

They were awesome, playing a whole load of songs, including Bob Wills, Neko Case, a great version of Sally Goodin', and some of their incredible "Pickled Hicks Songs": Hunt that Rabbit, the Mad Trapper, and that one about that giant bear that I can never remember the name of, but it's sweet.

I got up and played Mind Your Own Business, Ramblin' Man, Rollin' in My Sweet Baby's Arms, and Bucket's Got a Hole.

Rambin' Man, most especially, was EPIC. I mean, EPIC.

My favourite part of the night:

James: Oh, you want me to play one more? Okay, something simple . . . Folsom Prison?

Shane: We don't play that song.

James: What?

Shane: Who's it by?

James: (oblivious) Johhny Cash?

Shane: Never heard of him.

James: (laughing) Okay then, Bucket's Got a Hole in D.

Lastly, if it seems slow in Dangeria right now, it ain't. We get the keys to the new permanent La Glorieta, our beloved rehearsal space/studio/tea-drinking venue, tomorrow; we've been a-packin' and a-packin;, and tomorrow we'll be a-paintin' and a-paintin'; expect to see lots more of us once our physical transition is done!
